Supplies Needed
Foam Board: 20" x 30" x 3/16", white
Project Popperz™ Repositionable Vinyl Letters, Numbers & Symbols, 2" black
X-TREME™ School Glue Stick
CraftBond™ Foam Mounting Tape
X-ACTO® Designer Series 12" Rotary Paper Trimmer
X-ACTO® Designer Series 12" Metal Ruler
X-ACTO® Designer Series 8" Scissors
X-ACTO® Designer Series 5" Precision Tip Scissors
Colorbok® / TPC Studio™, Christmas Cheer™ Collection: 12" x 12" sheets scrapbook paper: Three "Fleur De Lys" (red side), two "Red Rings" (green side) and one "Gift Wrap" (green side); Three 12" x 12" "Lights Die Cut" sheets
3 2/3 yd. length of twisted red/green/white wired cord
Four 3/4" diameter lime green buttons
Twenty-five 6" long candy canes
Wire cutter
Two large paperclips (for hanger)
Pencil
Glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions
1. Ask an adult to help use X-ACTO® Designer Series 12" Rotary Paper Trimmer to cut seven 4" x 12" "Fleur De Lys" strips (red side up). To create red border on background, evenly apply generous amount of X-TREME™ School Glue Stick to back of one strip and horizontally attach to upper left corner of Foam Board. Similarly, attach second strip across top of Foam Board. Use Paper Trimmer to cut one strip in half to yield two 4" x 6" pieces. Attach one half to remaining top area.
Similarly, attach two and the half strips across bottom of Foam Board. Then glue remaining strip to each side. (Note: This will leave 12" x 24" uncovered in center.)
2. Use X-TREME™ Glue Stick to attach two "Red Rings" papers (green stripe side up) side by side, to cover center of Foam Board.
3. The frame around green stripe paper is made from cutting "Lights Die Cut" sheet as follows: For corners of border, fold one sheet into fourths and unfold. Use X-ACTO® Designer Series 8" Scissors on fold lines. On one of the four pieces, use pencil and X-ACTO® Designer Series 12" Metal Ruler to draw line 1/4" inside the lights. Cut on line, discarding center of paper. Repeat to cut other three corners. For straight sections of border, cut other two sheets by drawing line 1/4" inside lights and cutting. (Note: These corners can be discarded.)
4. Position corner lights strips on corners of striped paper. Fill in space between corners with straight lights strips, trimming to fit. For dimension, use two layers of CraftBond™ Foam Mounting Tape to attach lights strips.
5. (Note: Adult help needed in using wire cutter, making holes and using glue gun.) For candy cane hanging wire, measure 30" length cord and use wire cutter to cut. Place cord across Foam Board 6" below top and carefully use point of X-ACTO® Designer Series 5" Precision Tip Scissors to make hole at that level, just outside lights border. Repeat on other side. Insert cord ends into holes, stretch ends across back and hot glue on back to secure. Repeat to measure and cut second cord. Similarly, attach cord 12" below top of Foam Board.
6. For bow, measure and cut 18" length cord. Bring both ends around into loops and twist in center to make bow. Use glue gun to attach to one hanging cord hole. Similarly, make and attach three more bows to cord holes. To curl ends, wrap around pencil and remove pencil. Hot glue button onto center of each bow.
7. Peel and stick "CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN" vinyl letters to "Gift Wrap" paper (green side). Use 5" Precision Tip Scissors to cut apart letters and then carefully cut close to letters, leaving 1/8" border. Referring to photo, position letters on red background and use Glue Stick to attach.
8. For hangers on back, measure and mark 2” down from top and 3" in from each side. Slightly separate curved ends of one paper clip 1/4". On mark, hot glue bottom half of paper clip with single loop down, creating hanger loop with longer end of paper clip. Glue 2" square scrap paper, over glued end of paper clip. Repeat to attach other paper clip hanger.
9. Hang Foam Board on wall. Hang candy canes across both cords. Starting the first day of December, remove one per day to count down the days until Christmas.
